Atlanta, USA (September 21, 2010)

Georgia Perimeter College and the Atlanta Dekalb International Training Center (ATLANTA DITC): A Living Legacy of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games have entered into an agreement for the college to provide education resources for athletes from around the world training for national and international competitions, and the Olympic Games.

Atlanta Dekalb International Training Center, an organization that brings international athletes to Atlanta to train for the Olympics, will work with Georgia Perimeter’s International Student Admission and Advising Office to make the transition for student athletes seamless. ATALTNA DITC students will provide the financial resources needed to attend Georgia Perimeter College.

Georgia Perimeter was a natural choice as educational partner since the institution has experience with international students. Currently, the college serves students from more than 147 countries.

“Our student population is richly diverse, and we have worked with thousands of international students each year,” said GPC President Dr. Anthony S. Tricoli. “In addition, with the largest online program in Georgia, GPC also has the ability to provide education to these student athletes when they return to their home countries so that they can continue progress toward their associate’s degree.”

As a two year college, GPC is committed to
ensuring students continue their education by transferring on to four year institutions.  The college’s Transfer Admission Guarantee Program (TAG) guarantees admission, credit transfer, and classification as a “junior” at more than 40 notable public and private universities in and out of the State of Georgia.    “We are eager to provide the solution to the educational needs of the student athletes and look forward to working with Atlanta DITC for many years,” Tricoli said.

“Since 2002, more than 1855 athletes from 34 nations have competed and trained with the ATLANTA DITC,” said Dr Marc-Daniel Gutekunst, who along with Prince Albert II of Monaco founded the ATLANTA DITC.

“While all our student athletes aspire to achieve Olympic glory that only a chosen few will attain, our partnership with GPC will provide all our driven student athletes access to education to complete a degree, thus providing them the key ingredients to succeed professionally in life,” said ATLANTA DITC Co-Chairman Ambassador Andrew Young.

Georgia Perimeter College, the third largest institution of the University System of Georgia, serves more than 25,000 students through four campuses and several sites in metro Atlanta.
