Coach PETROV holds Pole-Vaulting Clinic after DeKalb Classic
Atlanta, USA (May 23, 2004)
On Sunday May 23, the eyes and ears of many young Olympic hopefuls were fixed on one of the legendary Olympic coaches of all time, Vitali PETROV. PETROV coached Sergey BUBKA, the great Olympic goal Medallist from Russia. Today the techniques and wisdom were being passed on to a new generation of Pole-vaulters who came from all over the country to participate in this one-day clinic held at Georgia Tech. "I was very impressed with the talent and their eagerness to learn," said PETROV about the athletes in attendance (some of whom participated in the First Annual Dekalb International Prep Classic the day before). A total of 40 participants were present to gain valuable lessons in pole vaulting from the proper grip to the the right posture. Jamie NEWSOME came from New York, and won the girls pole vaulting event on Saturday, praised the efforts of the Dekalb Prep Classic and for holding the clinic. "It was invaluable for me to be here and get this kind of experience. I"ve read about Vitali PETROV and Sergey BUBKA but now I have the chance of a lifetime to gain some knowledge that I didn't have before," commented Newsome.

The athletes who participated in the pole vaulting event on Saturday, praised the efforts of the Dekalb Prep Classic and for holding the clinic. It was invaluable for me to be here and get this kind of experience, said one of the attendees. Early Spring 2005, the DITC will organize with Vitali PETROV, a National Pole Vaulting Summit for Coaches only and a day after the 2005 Dekalb International Prep Classic, the DITC will organize a 2-day Pole Vaulting Clinic open to coaches and athletes.
