ATLANTA DITC becomes a designated USOC Training site for US Team Handball
Atlanta, USA (July 1, 2007)
USOC CEO Jim SHERR and ATLANTA DITC Co-Chairs Ambassador Andrew YOUNG and Dr. Marc Daniel GUTEKUNST signed an Agreement between USOC and FNT whereby the ATLANTA DITC becomes a designated USOC Training Site for Team Handball.
The official negotiations with USA Team Handball started in May 2004. In August 2005 the DITC was ready to sign a contract USA Team Handball. Due to USA Team Handball’s legal and financial problems, the DITC decided not to sign the agreement. Then we went through a waiting period that lasted 7 months.
Team Handball negotiations resumed in Torino, Italy, on February 9 during the 2006 Torino Olympic Games. This time negotiations were with the USOC. During the unveiling of the 2nd DITC Olympic painting, IOC Member and USOC Board Member Jim Easton quipped to USOC Chair Peter Ueberroth, “let the DITC adopt US Team Handball.”
Thirty eight months later our patience, negotiations and hard work were finally rewarded when we received the 12 original copies of the USOC DITC Agreement signed by USOC CEO Jim Scherr. In the end, we signed a Team Handball Agreement with the United States Olympic Committee and not with USA Team Handball.
