Atlanta, USA (May 19, 2007)

The great success of this year’s fourth edition of the “DeKalb Classic” is unprecedented.  Under the leadership of Meet Director Murray Sanford, the Organizing Committee acquired 333 registrations in less than three months, the highest number of registrations to date.

They also recruited nearly 50 athletes and coaches from around the world, including:
11 athletes and coaches from El Salvador, 4 athletes and coaches from Brazil, 14 athletes and coaches from the Bahamas, 8 athletes and coaches from the Cayman Islands, 8 athletes and coaches from the British Virgin Islands, 1 athlete from Belgium (already in the U.S.)

The new design for the "DeKalb Classic" brochure printed by DCVB was very well received.

Professor Augusto Cattoni Neto, Assistant to the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, attended the "DeKalb Classic."  On May 17th, at the Gala celebrating the 35th Year of the Atlanta-Rio Sister City Program hosted by Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Mrs. Carolyn Young, Professor Cattoni Neto spoke on behalf of the Rio Mayor.  In his speech, Professor Cattoni Neto thanked the DITC for inviting three athletes and a coach to attend the “DeKalb Classic,” and he also thanked the DITC for securing U.S. visas with the support of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson.

DELTA Airlines sponsored the airfares for the three athletes and one coach who flew from Rio to Atlanta to attend the "DeKalb Classic."

From May 17 through May 21 the DITC hosted 50 international athletes and coaches, providing room, board and transportation at our facility in Brook Run.
