Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mario VÁZQUEZ RAÑA and to his Executive Assistant Jimena SALDAÑA.

Mr. Mario VÁZQUEZ RAÑA was an IOC Member (2000-2012), President of the Mexican Olympic Committee (1974-2001), President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (1979-2012), President of the Pan American Sports Association (since 1979 and re-elected to serve until 2016), and President of the IOC OLYMPIC Solidarity (2002-2012)

Mr. Mario VÁZQUEZ RAÑA believed in the ATLANTA 1996, supported it and strongly encouraged the participation of the ATLANTA 1996 in the 2004 USOC led Athletes of the Americas to Athens (AAA) program under the patronage of the Pan American Sports Association (PASO).

On August 14, 2008, Mario VÁZQUEZ RAÑA was awarded during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games the ATLANTA 1996 PARSE Award
