USA Diving names two finalists as potential host cities for 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving:

Atlanta & Indianapolis

Indianapolis, USA (October 21, 2013)

INDIANAPOLIS – USA Diving, in partnership with the United States Olympic Committee, has announced that Atlanta and Indianapolis have been named as the two finalists in the bid process to select a host city for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving.  The Trials will determine the divers who will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Atlanta and Indianapolis were selected after a committee of USA Diving staff and board members conducted site visits with six potential host sites.  The committee also visited Greensboro, N.C.; Minneapolis; Riverside, Calif.; and Tucson, Ariz.  “The Olympic Trials are the most important event we hold, and all six cities we visited brought something special and unique to the table.

From the bids submitted to what we saw on our site visits, we believe Atlanta and Indianapolis presented an overall package that will best meet the needs of our athletes and our vision for our 2016 Trials,” USA Diving President and CEO Linda Paul said. “We sincerely thank the four cities not advancing in the bid process.  They have been excellent partners in hosting other diving events in the past, and we look forward to continuing these relationships in the future.”

As the bid process continues, the committee will conduct a second site visit to Atlanta and Indianapolis and will further evaluate the bids and facilities. The committee is also consulting with USOC broadcast partner NBC. NBC and NBC Sports provided 14 hours of live and taped diving coverage of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving and will provide similar coverage of the 2016 Trials.

A final recommendation will be made to the board of directors and the U.S. Olympic Committee, and a host city is expected to be named in December 2013.
