Congratulations to Prince Albert II of Monaco, ATLANTA DITC co-founder and Honorary Chair on becoming the new Patron of the World Olympians Association (WOA).

Newly elected World Olympians Association (WOA) President Joël Bouzou, suggested that Prince Albert become Patron of the WOA.  The WOA comprises some 100,000 + athletes who participated at the Olympic Games.

The offer was immediately accepted by Prince Albert II of Monaco, by the members of the Executive Committee of the WOA, as well as by Jacques Rogge, President of the international Olympic Committee (IOC).Prince Albert succeeds to Juan Antonio Samaranch who founded in 1994 the World Olympians Association (WOA) and was its Patron until his death in 2010.

Prince Albert is an accomplished athlete and the only head of State to have participated in five Olympics in bobsleigh (Calgary 1988, Albertville 1992, Lillehammer 1994, Nagano 1998 and Salt Lake City 2002).  Since 1985, he is also a Member of the IOC.

"It is a great honor for the World Olympians Association to have Prince Albert II of Monaco as our Patron," said WOA President, Joël Bouzou. "Prince Albert is both an Olympian and a true humanist.

On Joël Bouzou’s recommendation, Swedish Pernilla Wiberg, Alpine skiing champion and former member of the IOC, was also appointed member of the Executive Committee of the WOA.  

Pernilla Wilberg is one of the few skiers to have won medals in five Alpine skiing events (combined, slalom, giant slalom, downhill and Super G).

From 2002 to 2010, Pernilla was a member of the international Olympic Committee, and was a Member of several IOC commissions.
