The ATLANTA CLASSIC was established in 2004 by the ATLANTA 1996 as an elite competition similar to the KEEBLER Invitational Prep Meeting that Coach Joe NEWTON held for over 25 years at York High School in Elmhurst, IL. Joe NEWTON who advised the ATLANTA 1996 in creating the ATLANTA CLASSIC was the first high school coach to be selected as a U.S. Olympic Coach and member of the U.S. Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
